Can you believe that First Quarter ends at the end of this week! I'm giving the opportunity for those students that do not currently have 100% in PE a chance to improve their grade by doing an extra credit assignment. Grades consist of both participation and conduct. Please keep in mind that there can be circumstances when a student always participates and earns maximum participation points but can loose points for conduct. In class this week students are being made aware that "yes you have 100%" or "extra credit will help you". They have the option of taking an extra credit paper home to complete this week (due by Thursday October 24th).

This week the primary focus in grades 2-6th was getting a baseline on each child's level of physical fitness. This was done through the Patriot Fit Challenge. This was a 10 minute exercise challenge consisting of 8 different exercises using a 40/40 format (an exercise is performed for 40 seconds followed by a 40 second rest). During the rest, students recorded the number of reps they did during the preceding exercise.
We will perform this fitness test every couple of months so that the student can get a visual on the progress they are personally making in PE. K5 worked on proper throwing and catching technique in preparation of our upcoming assessment for report cards. First graders, although not tested on these components, also enjoyed a week of throwing/catching! |
